Most writers have a pre-writing routine, something they always do before sitting down to write.
Some writers like to clean their desk and sharpen pencils. Some need to take a walk around the neighborhood. Some prefer to savor their favorite choice of coffee.
When I’m getting ready to write, I usually wash the dishes first and then put the laundry away. While doing so, I listen to worship songs on my iTunes’ playlist.
For the past several weeks, I’ve been listening to the same worship song over and over:
Healer by Kari Jobe
I’m not sure why I started listening to this particular song. But I did. And then never stopped. The repeat button allows me to wander anywhere in the house, putting laundry away, while listening to the same song.
Perhaps the title drew me. As much as I pray for certain healing, I want the Healer even more.
You hold my every moment. You calm my raging seas.
How comforting to know that He is here, in every moment. And He is the source of peace during any storm.
You walk with me through fire. And heal all my disease.
When life chaffs and circumstances burn and diseases threaten, He is here. Always.
I trust in You.
Part of my morning ritual, before sitting down to write, is to commit my written words to Him in prayer. I want to write words of healing. Words that bring hope.
I believe You’re my healer.
I flew to the East Coast this weekend and met with some amazing women who are farther along this journey of obedience in ministry than I am. While there, they shared the wisdom they’ve gleaned from their experiences. And there was so much I could relate to.
I believe You are all I need.
Words heal. And I’m so grateful for the way Christ uses the words of writers and speakers to offer deep encouragement.
I believe You’re my portion. I believe You’re more than enough for me.
As I’ve spent the past several weeks finishing a writing project and preparing for this conference, I’ve listened to these same words — again and again — praying and trusting and believing, deep down, that Jesus really is all I need.
Jesus You’re all I need.
You hold my world in your hands.
Nothing is impossible for You.
On the final morning of the conference, I gathered with the women one last time. Together, we listened to the closing keynote. And my pen kept finding my pad with more notes to jot down.
Then, just before it all ended, someone came to the front and started playing a guitar. We didn’t sing all weekend. But here, as part of the closing keynote, we would sing one song together.
And do you know which song we sang? Of the thousands of worship songs to choose from?
We sang Healer.
And I was reminded, once again, that from coast to coast, from the wings of the dawn to the far side of the sea, He is the same. And His words always penetrate deepest, holding me fast, and healing me through.
What an amazing God we serve.
Is there a particular worship song you’ve been listening to a lot lately?

I LOVE this song! I sing it all the time and it gives me the confidence to know that God is able to bring healing to me – spirit, soul and body!
I like that song too. I have been listening to Take Heart by Hillsong United. I play it on my ipod as I dance and sing along in worship in my home.
Have a beautiful day!
I absolutely LOVE that song too, Denise!!! I am so encouraged each time I hear it and find myself pushing “repeat” often as well! Thank you for sharing about the way God has touched you by it as we’ll
. It reminds me that we are never alone.
