The Gospel Story
I. The Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God. (Isaiah 40:8, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21)
II. There is one God in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4, John 17:21, 2 Corinthians 13:14)
III. God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1, Psalm 102:25, Colossians 1:17)
IV. God created man and woman in his image. (Genesis 1:26-27, Psalm 8:4-5, Psalm 100:3)
V. The first man and woman chose to sin through voluntary disobedience, resulting in separation from God. All men and women are now born with a sinful nature and have a need for reconciliation with God. (Genesis 3:1-24, Romans 3:23, Ephesians 2:1-3)
VI. Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and offered his life as the ultimate substitutionary sacrifice. He was crucified, buried, and raised to life on the third day. His work on the cross is the once-and-for-all atonement for sin. Jesus ascended to heaven and is now seated at the right hand of the Father as our Advocate. (Matthew 1:23, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 1Timothy 2:5-6, Hebrews 7:25, 1 Peter 2:21-22)
VII. Salvation is by grace alone — through repentance of sin and faith in Jesus Christ. Humankind cannot earn or work for salvation. Upon accepting Christ’s gift of salvation, a believer receives the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit and becomes a part of God’s family. (John 14:6, 16-17, 26; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 John 1:9)
VIII. The one true church consists of all believers who have accepted Christ’s gift of salvation. The church is God’s chosen instrument to exemplify his grace and truth to a lost and hurting world. (Matthew 16:18; Acts 1:8, 2:42; Ephesians 2:19-21; Hebrews 10:24-25)
IX. While waiting for Jesus Christ to return one day for the consummation of his Kingdom, followers of Christ live each day to bring glory to God as they are being sanctified and renewed into Christ’s likeness. (Acts 1:9-11, Matthew 16:27, 2 Corinthians 3:18, 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10)
X. Jesus will one day make a new heaven and a new earth, and his people will live either eternally with God or apart from him in hell. (John 3:16, Philippians 3:20-21, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17, Revelation 20:11-15)
